On-Campus Orientation
The on-campus orientation is a great opportunity to meet the faculty/staff and fellow students prior to starting the program. The basics on how to complete the program, how to use the courseware, and how to learn at a distance are covered. The orientation also involves an evening social gathering for students and their families.
Next Orientation: July 29 & 30, 2010
The on-campus orientation is offered every summer and usually coincides with the dates of Agronomy 594: Workshop in Agronomy. This allows new students the opportunity to interact with students nearing completion of the program. The schedule includes a morning and afternoon to introduce the program, faculty/staff, and campus; a social gathering that evening to meet fellow students; and an introduction of courseware and tips on how to best learn at a distance the following morning. For a more detailed schedule, please see the itinerary page.
Though it is not mandatory before starting the program, we strongly encourage you to attend the orientation or schedule a visit to campus early in your study. We would like to meet you, show you your campus, and answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend this year’s orientation, you can complete an online version, schedule a personal visit at any time, and attend next year’s on-campus event.
Cost
There is no direct cost for the orientation. However, you are responsible for the costs associated with traveling to the ISU campus and lodging. Meals will be provided, including a continental breakfast each morning session and a dinner at the social gathering, which will be held the first night.
Lodging
The Ames Convention and Visitor's Bureau is a great place to look for lodging options. However, the Memorial Union is one of the most reasonable places to stay in Ames and since it is on campus, it is an easy commute to the orientation activities.
How to get there
The orientation will begin with a welcome and introductions in 3140 Agronomy Hall. It is easiest if you park in the Memorial Union parking ramp and walk to Agronomy Hall. The meeting room is on the north side of the building and on the third floor.
Directions/Maps
Parking
Parking passes will be provided for the Memorial Union parking ramp. When returning to your vehicle at the end of the day, provide the attendant the parking pass provided the first day of orientation.
